ahhh, stuff like this always just makes me feel sad. it just… every time I see a woman falling all over herself to assure the men that she’s not like those OTHER women, she’s REAL and NOT SHALLOW and NOT A SLUT, I feel this weird combination of infuriated and deeply sorry for her. because this stuff always just seems so much more pitifully desperate for approval than any amount of OHNOES TINY SHORTS AND POSTING FACEBOOK PICTURES could ever be. but yes, definitely seconding the suggestion that they all get together with the Nice Guys so they can gaze adoringly at each other while agreeing how everybody else in the world is soooo terrible for wanting to date the Wrong People (ie, not them). they’ll be happy, the rest of us can get on with things, and all shall be well. (minor diversion though, if there’s one phrase that I wish would go away, it’s ‘special snowflake’. mostly I think because it gets thrown so often at people whose identities aren’t seen as being acceptable. genderqueer/nonbinary? omg stop being a special snowflake and pick a gender!! invisibly disabled? you just want to be a special snowflake and get special treatment! etc etc. I’ve heard it so often aimed at either me or people I care about or people who just generally didn’t deserve to be accused of ‘trying to be special’ just for being who they are, that I just have this automatic ARGH reaction to seeing it anywhere now, heh. /fails.)
